Dr. Rohan Bissoondath is passionate about all facets of medicine. Having completed his Bachelor of Science at the University of Calgary, Rohan received his medical degree from the University of the West Indies and participated in subsequent medical training throughout the Caribbean. His time at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago and Princess Margaret Hospital, Nassau, Bahamas allowed him to experience varying aspects of medicine helping prepare him for his future endeavors in preventive medicine. Rohan returned to Calgary in 2002 and, after unpacking his winter coat, began his residency in Family Medicine at, his Alma Mater, the University of Calgary. After completing his residency, he was eager to bring his unique outlook on patient care to the city of Calgary.
Rohan’s passion for health and wellness is what drives Preventous Cosmetic; to Rohan, healthy skin is beautiful skin. Rohan was quickly drawn to aesthetic medicine for its artistry and positive emotional benefits. Known for his relentless pursuit of mastery (and a passion for learning new things), his strong focus on skin health and preventive medicine is changing the way his patients see themselves.
Dr. Rohan Bissoondath is certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada and licensed through the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. He is also a member of the Canadian Association of Aesthetic Medicine.
Dr. Julia Carroll is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She earned her undergraduate degree from Acadia University and graduated Alpha Omega Alpha from Dalhousie Medical School. Dr. Carroll is the co-founder of Compass Dermatology and the Director of Dermatology at the Medcan Clinic. She is also a lecturer in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto. Dr. Carroll travels worldwide, both lecturing and learning, to bring the latest cutting edge treatments to her patients. Her areas of interest in dermatology are broad and include injectables, cosmetic lasers, scar treatment, and general dermatology. She is a frequent contributor to local and national media.

Dr. Jennifer A. Upitis completed her Honours Bachelor of Life Science’s at Queen’s University. She then went on to graduate with Distinction from University of Alberta Medical School in Edmonton, Alberta. After completing a Family Medicine Residency at the University of Alberta, Dr. Upitis obtained a Diplomate Degree in Dermatology from Harvard University.
During this time she received specialized training from internationally renowned scholars in the fields of medical dermatology, cosmetic and laser techniques and aesthetic medicine. She regularly attends numerous courses, seminars and conferences in order to keep abreast of the newest advances in dermatological surgery, laser treatments, medical and cosmetic technology. She is a certified injector for Botox/Xeomin and a variety of fillers.
As well, Dr Upitis has a Focused Practice Designation in Dermatology as recognized by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and the Ontario Medical Association.
Dr. Upitis works exclusively as an associate at the Toronto Dermatology Centre.
Societal memberships include the Canadian and Ontario Medical Associations (CMA/OMA), Toronto Western Hospital Dermatology Journal Club, the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) and American Association of Aesthetic Medicine.
Dr. Upitis is Past President of the Canadian Association of Aesthetic Medicine.
Dr. Luna is the co-founder and medical director of Lunaesthétique, a successful medical-aesthetic clinic in Quebec, which he started in 2006. He has since been featured in a number of TV and newspapers segments for his expert opinion.
Dr. Luna has practiced medicine in Canada since 1981, when he first became a clinical and research fellow in internal medicine at the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research Jewish General Hospital in Montreal. By 1983 he became a staff member of the CSSS Hospital of Gatineau in the departments of family medicine and obstetrics. In 1990, Dr. Luna pioneered the first adolescent clinic in Gatineau and for 2 years was the Chief of Medicine at the Centre Local de Services Communautaires de Gatineau.
Dr. Luna is a member of the Collège des Médecins du Québec, of the Fédération des Médecins Omnipraticiens du Québec, and of the Canadian Association of Aesthetic Medicine of which he has been a member since 2010.
Dr. Jaggi Rao is a double board certified dermatologist (Canada and USA) and a certified cosmetic surgeon. He received his medical degree from McMaster University in 1998, and went on to complete his 5-year specialty training in dermatology at the University of Alberta. This was followed by the completion of an accredited fellowship with the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery in Southern California. Dr. Rao is a full Clinical Professor of Medicine and served as the Program Director for the Dermatology Residency Training Program at the University of Alberta from 2009 to 2014.
Dr. Rao has won several accolades for writing, presentations, research and teaching, including the Canadian Dermatology Association’s Teacher of the Year Award. In 2011, he was the recipient of Avenue Magazine’s Top 40 under 40 Award. He has authored over 50 scientific papers and textbook chapters, and has been an invited speaker for over 500 lectures worldwide to physicians, other professionals, industry and the general public. Dr. Rao is a popular instructor for a number of dermatology-related courses and educational projects. He continues to serve as a consultant to various organizations including the government (such as the Canadian Standards Association), medical device and pharmaceutical industry, healthcare provision businesses, and professional sports teams (such as the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club).
Clinically, Dr. Rao is the founder and medical director of a comprehensive Dermatology & Dermasurgery Centre in the heart of Edmonton, Alberta. He has developed several treatment protocols and techniques, which have been adopted by other healthcare professionals. He is the founder and medical director of ConsultDERM™, Canada’s largest teledermatology program, which provides remote dermatology assistance for patients with skin-related problems. He also volunteers with Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and the Canadian Physicians for Aid & Relief (CPAR) as a teledermatologist.
Dr. Rao combines his passion for dermatology with his interest in helping people to provide education, expert advice and clinical care to all who desire it.
Dr. Natalie Skinner graduated from medical school in 2006 at the University of Ottawa, where she was the Gold Medal recipient. She completed her Family Medicine Residency at McGill University in 2008. After many years working in the Emergency Medicine Department, she chose General Practice, which provided the work-life balance she sought. This is where she was confronted with various dermatology cases. She increased her knowledge by completing the Cardiff Diploma in Practical Dermatology. She has since expanded her general and dermatology practice by offering aesthetics. Aesthetics provides a great mix of two of her passions: art and medicine. She finds challenging acne cases particularly rewarding because of the joy and confidence it brings to her adolescent patients.
Dr. Skinner enjoys sharing her passion for Dermatology with Residents at McGill where is a lecturer. She has also been invited to speak at the McGill Family Medicine Refresher Course.
Dr. Skinner spends her free time with her two children and pursues her love for the arts by taking ballet classes.
After graduating from the University of Stellenbosch with degrees in Medicine and Surgery, Dr Van Aardt immigrated to Canada in 1993. He is Board Certified in Family Medicine and has more than 12 years of experience in ER and Family Medicine. In 2000 his focus shifted to Cosmetic Medicine and has been practicing full time in this area since 2004. He has served on the board of CAAM for a number of years, is a Fellow of the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery and also serves as an educational preceptor and advisor for other institutions. He has a passion for teaching and learning, has authored medical texts and has been interviewed numerous times for television as well as print media. Dr Van Aardt works out of three locations located in and around Halifax, Nova Scotia and teaches internationally.
Dr. Mandy Wong obtained her degree as an MD from the University of Alberta in 1991 with honours in research, after publishing a scientific paper on treatment of malignant melanoma during medical school. She went on to become a general practitioner, moving to Kelowna in 1995. Due to her continued interest in skin, she has guided her career to mirror her special interests.
Dr. Wong has focused her practice on the treatment of varicose veins and skin concerns since 1999. She is the owner and medical director of the accredited non-hospital medical surgical facility, Restore Vein & Skin Centre in Kelowna, BC. The clinic offers medical and cosmetic treatments for vein and skin concerns with an emphasis on evidence based medicine and best-practice guidelines, as well as cutting edge skin cancer diagnostic equipment and medical devices.
Dr. Wong is a Diplomate of the American Board of Laser Medicine. She obtained her Diploma in Practical Dermatology from the University of Cardiff and a Masters in Medicine in the Field of Skin Cancer from the University of Queensland. She is an associate clinical professor for UBC’s Southern Medical School where she is involved in teaching the dermatology rotation for medical students that come through the program. She is also a regular speaker for the BC College of Family Practitioners on the subject of skin diseases, in particular skin cancer and dermoscopy.
In the phlebology arena, Dr. Wong is on the board of directors of the Canadian Society of Phlebology and is a regular speaker at its national meetings. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine and has published several scientific papers in the area of Phlebology. She has also recently contributed a chapter on modern treatment of varicose veins in a textbook for the American College of Phlebology. She is on the board of directors of the Canadian Society of Phlebology and is a regular speaker at its national meetings.
Dr. Haneef Alibhai graduated from McGill Medical School in Montreal, Canada. He is the medical director of md cosmetic & laser clinic in Abbotsford, BC, Canada and the director of training of md cosmetic & laser training. His main interests lie in the fields of lasers, pulsed light devices, Botox Cosmetic and Therapeutic and Dermal Fillers.
Dr. Alibhai is a Past-President of the Canadian Association of Aesthetic Medicine. He is a clinical instructor for the UBC Faculty of Medicine. He is a faculty member of the Canadian Association of Aesthetic Medicine and the National Society of Cosmetic Physicians.
Dr. Alibhai has been a keynote speaker at conferences organized by the International Union of Aesthetic Medicine, the French Society of Aesthetic Medicine, the Italian Society of Aesthetic Medicine, the Argentinean Society of Aesthetic Medicine, the Mexican Society of Aesthetic Medicine, the Colombian Association of Aesthetic Medicine, the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine, the Dubai Dermatology Association, the Asia Pacific Society of Aesthetic Medicine and the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. He has written articles for Aesthetic Trends & Technologies, Aesthetic Buyers Guide, Healthy Aging Magazine and several other aesthetic magazines and journals. He was the Section Editor for the Aesthetic Medicine Chapter in the 3rd Edition of “Procedures for Primary Care” published by Elsevier.
Dr. Alibhai has been training physicians and dentists on various applications in aesthetic medicine since 2002. He is a Certified Physician Trainer for Allergan (Botox Cosmetic, Juvederm). Since 2002, he has trained over 900 doctors and dentists worldwide. He is an internationally recognized speaker and author in the field of aesthetic medicine.
Dr. Wendy Smeltzer graduated from University of Toronto medical school in 1980, practiced medicine in Calgary, Canada for 18 years and has been actively providing medical esthetic services since 1997. She has served on the executive of the Alberta Chapter of the Federation of Medical Women as well as committees for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. She was involved in developing Clinical Practice Guidelines with the Alberta Medical Association and has been a member of appeal panel for Alberta Health Care on appointment by the Minister of Health.
In 1997 Dr. Smeltzer founded Santé Spa (formerly Institut de Santé), Canada’s first medical spa, combining medical esthetics and lifestyle programs with traditional spa services. An ardent spa industry supporter, she was on the founding Board of Directors for the Canadian national spa association, Leading Spas of Canada, and chaired its Standards and Practices Committee, working for increased standards in the spa industry in Canada and developing a spa inspection process. Dr. Smeltzer was also one of nine advisors appointed in 2004 to the Canadian federal task force on Spa, Health and Wellness. Dr. Smeltzer serves on the Board of the Canadian Association of Aesthetic Medicine and has lectured across Canada and internationally on medical aesthetic procedures.
Dr. Trina Stewart, BScH, MD, CCFP, FCFP received a Bachelor of Medical Science and MD from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1998. She went on to complete her residency at the New Brunswick site of the Dalhousie University Family Medicine Program and achieved certification in the Canadian College of Family Practice in 2000. She was awarded her fellowship in Family Medicine in 2010. She began her family medicine career in Kentville, Nova Scotia, moving on to Summerside, PEI in 2002. She has a private practice in Summerside, PEI where she maintains full hospital privileges including care of inpatients and OR assisting. Dr. Stewart established Esprit Medical Aesthetics in 2005, initially treating with botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid fillers only; adding chemical peels, cosmeceuticals, and light based technologies over the ensuing years. Along with her interest in medical aesthetics, Dr. Stewart has a keen interest in general dermatology and completed a Diploma in Practical Dermatology at Cardiff University in Wales in 2010. Since then, Dr. Stewart has incorporated consulting dermatology into her busy family and aesthetic medicine practice. She serves as a Provincial Dermatology Associate serving patients and their general dermatology needs from across the province. She is active with Dalhousie Faculty and is the Curriculum Coordinator for the PEI site of the Dalhousie Family Medicine Program. She is actively involved with teaching and regularly serves as preceptor to residents in her practice. She was recognized with an Award of Excellence from the Canadian College of Family Practice in 2013 for her dedication to the education of family medicine residents. Her entrepreneurial spirit and love for the aesthetic industry and family is evidenced by a business partnership with her sister in Fredericton, NB as they established Sorella Spa together in 2011. She is also a busy wife and mother of two amazingly talented children, Dexter (12) and Lindsay (9).
